Xmas teddy card

Hi everyone.
I hope your Monday got off to a good start.

I had a lovely week-end - went to London on Sunday for my brother's Rememberance Sunday parade with his Territorial Army regiment, and other regiments.  I was pleasantly surprised at how many more people came out to support our soldiers (compared to last year).

I have a quick card to show today.  Sorry, been some seriously grey and dreary days of late so the light is not as good as I'd like to take photos.

Teddy die cut image : Lili of the Valley
Patterned Papers : Milton & Co Christmas Paper Stack
Letter stamps, brads, Stickles glitter & ribbon : my stash
Poinsettia flowers : Wild Orchid Crafts
Star die : Sizzix Framelits 'Stars'
Teddy image die cut with : XCut Nesting Standard Dies Ornate Frame
I used Dimensional Magic on teddies eyes and nose to give him more 'life' and added it to the tags too.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by.

Nowzad and American Airlines rescue 15 animals

I support a charity called Nowzad, who assists soldiers in rescuing the companion animals of soldiers serving in Afghanistan.  I'm not sure if this link will work to their facebook page -
I just had to share this wonderful news below (and I also have to mention they help soldiers of any nationality rescue their animals!):
American Airlines flies to the rescue.
Operation ‘American Reunite’

This week sees one of Nowzad’s biggest and most exciting events taking place in New York City. Thanks to the generosity of American Airlines 14 Nowzad Dogs and 1 Nowzad cat will be flying into the states and reuniting with their soldiers for the first time.

The event will be taking place on the 16th November where the dogs will make their journey from Kabul in Afghanistan, to meet their soldiers, or in the case of those still serving - family members, in what will be a historical Nowzad reunion.

For Pen Farthing this is the fundamental reason for Nowzad, “I am forever in the debt of American Airlines. Getting these dogs reunited with the soldiers is why I started this. I know what my dog ‘Nowzad’ meant to me – I could not leave him behind – he was my comfort during those dark cold nights in Afghanistan where normality did not exist. It is a testament to the character of the US soldiers concerned that they have shown compassion in such a brutal place as to rescue an innocent animal from the chaos. We can do no more than help them in return”.

One such soldier is Marine Ward Van Alstine, a serving US Marine. His mother explains, “My son is a tough guy marine. He can bench press over his body weight and run for miles. He did 2 tours of Afghanistan and just returned home. He is also a 23 year old kid who desperately misses his family and fights back tears when he gets news of fellow marine injuries or death. While on his second tour of duty, a soft heart contained in a skinny, dirty, starving dog touched his. He took her into his tent and made a home for her. In a war and a country where there are more questions than answers, her doggy devotion became something he could believe in and count on - he had a loving friend who was always willing to listen and just be there. That friend is Chloe, the dog that Nowzad is helping him bring home’.

Another Nowzad rescue that is being flown in is Beethoven, the gentle giant with a big heart. While walking to work on only his second day in Afghanistan, SFC Jackson-Greer noticed a large dog following slowly behind, but was soon reassured by a colleague - ‘oh its ok, thats Beethoven, he always walks us to work’. Still nervous and continually looking back, SFC Jackson-Greer realised the dog had slowed down - seemingly understanding the soldier was nervous. Nowzad had already been to the camp to neuter Beethoven and give him his vaccinations but unfortunately a change in policy meant Beethoven could no longer stay there. SFC Jackson-Greer explains, “This is one of the most amazing dogs I have ever met. I would love to have him as part of my family back in South Carolina. I know I was not sent to Afghanistan to help dogs, but unless some divine intervention tells me otherwise - maybe I was!”

This special event will see brave soldiers like these reunited with the friend that got them though the toughest of times and Pen will be there to see it all happen, “I am extremely grateful that American Airlines are flying these companion animal rescues on behalf of the American soldiers to JFK. As a charity we completely rely on public donations and this level of support is fantastic.”

Nowzad would also love to thank Arthur Benjamin of American Dog Rescue and Cathy Kangas of Prai Beauty for making this event happen in the first place; ‘These two animal lovers are amazing in what they achieve for those without a voice in need of a guardian angel – we can’t thank them both enough for their time and dedication’

For more information on the event as it happens please follow Pen on twitter @penfarthing or the Nowzad facebook page.

To make a tax deductible donation to the Nowzad Dogs charity please visit and click on the Nowzad button. All UK residents please use our donate page on the website!

Thank you everybody!!!

For anyone who has kindly donated towards the rescue of these animals, the money will be directly used to assist with other Nowzad rescue’s who are waiting to go on to their forever home with their soldiers. The Nowzad team would like to say a huge thank you to American Airlines for their unbelievable support.

Challenge 19 – A Recipe

The challenge over at Cuddly Buddly this week is 'A Recipe'.  To use - 3 Flowers, 2 Buttons & 1 Ribbon.

Details can be found here :
Here's my happy snowman card =)  I really like the colours I chose for this.

The ingredients for making it are as follows :

Black & white snowflake patterned card, turquoise card and white card all from my stash.
Roses and Cherry Blossom flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts.
Star ribbon and blue buttons from my stash.
I embossed the turquoise card using the Sizzix Snowflakes #2 embossing folder (this is from the Christmas Set #3 A2).
White card with digi stamp on was die cut using Spellbinders Nestabilities Lacey Circles dies.
Digi image is from Cuddly Buddly (I can't find it anywhere! but I'd saved it in my CB folder on my computer, so perhaps it was a freebie?)
I used ProMarkers to colour the image.  I also used my Staedtler Triplus Gel-liner in Silver to colour the snowflakes and a few accents.
I die cut the stars from the Sizzix Stars Framelits and coloured the board silver.
The black paper was embossed using the same snowflake embossing folder mentioned above.
Circle cut with the Spellbinders Nestabilities Standard Circles Large.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look - please do leave a comment so I can visit your blog too.

Hello Monday

Have you ever had one of those days where this lightning bolt of illumination wallops you upside the head and you can't help but think to yourself 'what the <bleep> am I wasting my time here for?'  I had one of those days at work today.  It sux.  lol.  I was hoping to post my latest card creation tonight, but unfortunately various bits are not yet dry...  so I'm sharing some random but nice things instead =

Isn't this photo taken by Hillebrand Breuker absolutely gorgeous?
How adorable are these Pine Martens?  My sister shared this article with me, and I just had to share it too =)

It was Maximus' 6th birthday yesterday and he was very spoiled.  I think he liked having me home with him all day, getting cake (!!) and lots of doggie treats, and being cuddled even more than normal.  This pic makes him look all partied out.  Hehehe.
And I just had to share a song I am loving at the moment, by Bruno Mars.

I got to thinking about simple pleasures the other day.  I started asking friends and a couple of work colleagues what their simple pleasure/s is/are.  One of my friends said 'a cup of tea'.  Another one was 'finding a £10 note in a coat pocket'.  Another response was 'seeing a rainbow'.  One of mine?  Going for a walk with Maximus.  Awesome.  What is your simple pleasure?

Have a wonderful week.  Thank you so much for stopping by - all your comments are very much appreciated.

Challenge #18 – White on White

The challenge over at Cuddly Buddly this week is 'White on White'.  You can find the details here:

This gorgeous digi stamp is called 'I'm Dreaming' and is only 99p!!  It can be found here:
I die cut the circle and matted it using Spellbinders Nestabilities STandard Circles Large and Petite Scalloped Circles Large dies.
I used white Flower Soft for the snow and dimensional magic on two of the snowflake images.  I used Stickles 'Star Dust' for the large snowflake image.
Background dotted white card was embossed using a Sizzix embossing folder (sorry, don't know the name of it as it came free with my Big Shot machine).
The star was die cut using Sizzix 'Stars' die.
Tag was die cut from Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations 'Tiny Tabs & Tags' Bigz die.
Ribbon from my stash, and the paper snowflakes are from Making Memories, as is the brad.
Wooden snowflake was from a local craft shop.  I painted it white and used Stickles 'Star Dust' to give it some glitz.
Few bits of blue on the image and the writing on the tag were done using a ProMarker.
Isn't this just the cutest little image ever?  I really do love the versatility of digi stamps, and the fact that they don't take up space to store!

I have a horrid head cold which seems to be doing the rounds at the moment at work.  So I'm off to bed now with a Lemsip.  Take care everyone and thanks for stopping by.
